[Alert] Problems with phone system affecting all SIP phones on all campuses and BRIA softphones.

No further incidents have been reported, everything is back to normal. If you’re still having trouble please let the IT Helpdesk know.

Monitoring, 10.55 am

Maintenance engineers have resolved the issue and will continue to monitor the system for the rest of today. All affected telephones should now be working as expected.

Update, 10.20 am

Investigating, 10.00 am

The issue is widespread with many reports coming in from Southend and Colchester – we assume Loughton is affected too. We are unclear if the problem affects analogue services for Lifts and alarms.

The issue has been reported to our maintainer who are investigating urgently.

An update will be issued every hour or as soon as we hear any developments.

Good news – the restart was a success and we’re now monitoring the situation.

Planned Emergency work

We’re doing some work on the Voicemail server following on from the problems caused by the recent power outage.

The work is happening on:

  • Monday 4 January (Today) between 6.00pm and 6.30pm

Unfortunately you won’t be able to access the Voicemail system during this time to make or retrieve a message. All pre-existing messages are unaffected.

We’ll update you here as soon as the work is finished. Thanks as always for your patience.

[Alert] Loss of analogue phones at Colchester campus

Investigating, 12:30pm

People who use an analogue phone in Colchester will find there is a problem with it right now, affecting inbound calls to campus. Outbound calls may also be affected including calls made from a lift.

An engineer is on their way to site now.

We apologise for this inconvenience and will update here at 2.00pm or earlier if there is any news.

[Scheduled] Planned telephone system upgrades are happening soon

The updates have been installed and tested without incident. If anyone is having trouble with please let the IT Helpdesk know.

Planned work

To keep our telephone system well maintained and running properly, we’ve got some planned upgrades happening on:

  • Wednesday 21 October between 6.00am and 8.00am

During this period the phone system will be completely offline for between 20 to 45 minutes depending on the type of phone you are using, when no inbound or outbound calls (including call redirection) will be possible at all campuses and for those using BRIA.

All systems, including voicemail and BCT, will be affected simultaneously and then gradually return to a functional state. 

We expect the work to go smoothly and will update you here as soon as the work is finished.

[Service Alert] We are experiencing a complete loss of all analogue telephone services at Colchester Campus

Anyone using an older style analogue telephone is affected by this outage. This includes:

Security 2222

Lift lines

Credit card readers and alarms connected to the phone system.

An engineer has been called to site to investigate and we will post another update as soon as we know more.
