[Service Alert] [Resolved] Issue with releasing exam papers on FASER

Filed under: Elearning, FASER, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — Samantha Thornton @ 10:39 am

There was an issue with FASER which meant that exam papers were not released to students by 9:55am.

The issue was fixed at 10:15am, and exam papers should be available to download. You will be required to refresh FASER within your web browser to see the exam paper.

If you’re still having problems with downloading your exam paper, please get in contact with the IT Helpdesk¬†through email or via our live chat

We apologies for the trouble caused, and thank you for your patience during this time.

Problems with FASER e-mails

Filed under: FASER, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — John Maydew @ 9:03 am

Update 09:33

We’ve been able to solve the problem and FASER is now sending out e-mails again. If you’d like an e-mail receipt for a file you uploaded between 3am and 9:30am please get in touch with the IT Helpdesk and we’ll be able to send you a new one.

Original post

We’re currently aware of an issue that’s stopping FASER from sending e-mails, including the file uploaded receipt.

Don’t panic! This doesn’t prevent FASER from accepting submissions, it just means that you won’t receive your e-mail receipt until we fix the problem. When you upload a file to FASER, you should see the Submission Details pop-up window which tells you that FASER has your submission, which you can use as proof of upload:

FASER's submission details pop-up, showing the "FASER has your submission" alert

The green “FASER has your submission” alert means your upload has been accepted

If you close this window, you can get it back again by clicking your uploaded file and selecting Details from the drop-down menu.

Scheduled maintenance for FASER

Filed under: FASER, [Resolved], [Scheduled], [Service Alert] — John Maydew @ 3:53 pm

We’ll be making some behind the scenes changes to FASER today at 5pm to keep ahead of rising demand.

FASER will be unavailable during this period, which should last for up to an hour. There are no assignment deadlines during this time, but any students wishing to submit their work should wait until later today before attempting any uploads.

We’ll keep this blog post updated with more information as it follows.

Update 6:19

The update has been completed and FASER is now available again. Thank you for your patience

[Resolved] Slow services

Filed under: ESIS, FASER, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — Benjamin Steeples @ 4:11 pm

Update 15/01/2020 09:55

We believe that this issue has now been resolved.

The cause has been traced to several overloaded database servers, and less-optimal queries.

Update 14/01/2020 11:50

Users are reporting that the SharePoint service has returned to expected speeds.

Update 14/01/2020 10:37

After further investigation – We are starting to see normal activity on the database, and users should be able to start using FASER again.

We are still treating the service as ‘at risk’, and if you continue to experience issues, please get in touch with the IT Helpdesk¬†(it.helpdesk@essex.ac.uk).

Update 14/01/2020 08:19

An update is being implemented to FASER to address its impact on the database.

This is taking place during our Tuesday at Risk period.

An update will follow once this has been completed.

Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Original 13/01/2020 16:11
