Within Unit4 you are able to connect to Amazon via the Marketplace, but unable to complete a purchase. Amazon is aware and we will update you as soon as the issue is resolved.

[Service Alert] University ransomware attacks – be aware

We have received reports of successful ransomware attacks on two UK universities that have taken all their IT systems offline and forced one university to close. We would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links, opening attachments from senders you don’t know, and to keep the operating system updated on your computer and devices. 

If you receive an email from a colleague or team with a link or attachment that you were not expecting, contact them via another means (Zoom or instant message) to check the email is genuine. The University of Essex will never ask you to confirm your password over email,  phone, or anywhere.

If you receive a suspicious email or attachment, report the email by forwarding it as an attachment to phishing@essex.ac.uk. If you have clicked a suspicious link or opened a suspicious attachment, please contact the IT Helpdesk immediately.

[Service Alert] We’re making improvements to the Southend Campus Internet Firewalls

The firewall upgrades have been completed successfully. ITS will continue to monitor for any problems.

Planned Work – Sunday 18th April 09:00 – 15:00

As part of our ongoing improvements to cyber security, we’ve got some planned upgrades of our Internet firewalls happening on Sunday the 18th of April from 09:00 to 15:00 on the Southend Campus.

Unfortunately you may experience brief interruptions on network and Internet access during this time and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We’ll update you here as soon as the work is complete.

[Service Alert] Power outage affecting some IT services (Southend Campus)

Update (11.00am):

eduroam has been restored at The Forum and University servers have been restored at University Square.

Please get in touch with the IT Helpdesk if you are unable to connect to your office PC remotely.

Please contact Glide if you are experiencing issues with the Student Accommodation Network.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused by the earlier outages.

Update (9.45am):

We are expecting eduroam to be restored at The Forum by this afternoon

Update (9.24am):

eduroam remains down in The Forum, but is available in all other Southend Campus locations.

Student PCs, Printing, Telephony, and most AV has been restored.

Most Staff PCs should be accessible – please get in touch with the IT Helpdesk if you are unable to connect to your office PC remotely.

We are still working to restore some University servers at University Square.

Any issues with the Student Accommodation Network should be reported to Glide.

A power cut in the Southend area caused an outage at 7am this morning.

The power has now been restored, but some IT services are currently unavailable (including eduroam at The Forum)
