[Service Alert] Issue with access to Exam Timetables Website and other University web pages

We’re aware of an issue affecting access to the Exam Timetables Website (https://www1.essex.ac.uk/examtimes) and some other University web pages and web pages on SharePoint (EAF/ESF/ECF).

The cause has been identified as extremely high load on the Exam Timetables Website itself, and this is having a detrimental effect on other database-driven web pages too.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing you.

Students are advised to wait, and retry accessing the Exam Timetables Website later.

We will continue to monitor the situation.

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.

[Service Alert] We’re making improvements to the Loughton Campus Wifi Firewalls

The firewall upgrade is complete. We’ll continue to monitor the wifi service in Loughton throughout the day before closing this blog.

Planned Work – Friday 12 March 08:00 – 09:00

As part of our ongoing improvements to cyber security, we’ve got some planned upgrades of our Internet firewalls happening on Friday the 12th of March from 08:00 to 09:00 on the Loughton E15 Campus.

Unfortunately you may experience brief interruptions on wifi access during this time and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We’ll update you here as soon as the work is complete.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

 

Update 14:50pm

We have identified the cause and taken action to rectify the problem. Search index service is gradually resolving, and should be fully restored in a few minutes. We will continue to monitor the situation .

We are aware of an issue which is affecting SharePoint search indexing and are investigating the root cause.

We will provide updates as we know more.

The planned Internet firewall upgrade work has been completed successfully.

[Alert] Many services are experiencing issues

Update, 5 March 2012 4.45pm

We continue to monitor the situation and ITS engineers have been working today with the suppliers to find a permanent solution.

For the time being the temporary arrangement remains in place with further work planned for next week.

We will provide updates as this progresses and when it is completed.

Thanks for your patience with this ongoing issue.

Update 5.05pm

The disruption earlier today was caused by a problem with a part of the network equipment and a temporary arrangement is in place to prevent further issues. Our engineers are working with the suppliers engineers to find a permanent solution.

ITS will be monitoring and providing further updates.

Update, 3.10pm

The work to fix the problem is ongoing and there may be further disruption to services.

Update, 2.12pm

We have identified the cause and rectified the problem. Services are resuming gradually.

We will continue to monitor the situation .

Investigating, 2.00 pm

We are aware of a network issue that is affecting many system and investigating the root cause.

Many of our services are experiencing issues, including Sharepoint, telephones, RDP, and web page access. Our engineers are investigating urgently.
