Dr Mary Kennedy – Mary is the Lead for Service User Engagement in the School of Health and Social Care. She is a registered nurse with many years of experience in mental health, dementia and end of life care.

Stephen Jordan – Stephen is a lecturer in the School of Health and Social Care. He qualified as a social worker in 1988. He has worked primarily in family assessment and support and with foster carers, but he has experience working in services for older people.

Penny Hodgkinson – Penny is a lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the School of Health and Social Care. She has an active interest in life story work and creative and life writing with marginalised groups to help them get their voices heard.

Ad Gridley – Ad suffered from cannabis-associated psychosis after a wild gap year in Canada. Since 2010, he’s written a book and now runs two podcasts. In addition, he lectures across the country at schools and universities to help healthcare students grow into efficient, empathetic healthcare workers.

Matthew Smith – Matthew has suffered from anxiety and depression since his late teens. He volunteers for a mental health charity and is a valuable member of the SURG.

John Wills – John is the manager and senior instructor at Greenpath Ventures. He is a fully trained bushcraft and woodcraft instructor. He has worked for the NHS as a GP care advisor and works with survivors of abuse as a lead facilitator for AARCA. John shares his passion for the outdoors with groups who might find access difficult.

Marty Jacobs – Marty is the Head of Technology-Enhanced Learning at the University of Essex. He has a background in multimedia production and helps the SURG with various projects and initiatives.
