We’re all explorers at Essex

This week is “Explorers Week”. Every year, National Geographic celebrate new and emerging explorers by arranging a whole host of interesting events, many of which are streamed live via the web.

By visiting the Explorers Week website, you can connect with National Geographic scientists, conservationists, and storytellers to find out about the projects that they’re currently working on. I’ve spent a few hours on the site and it is well worth taking the time to read some of the articles and watch some of the videos; they’re are all very inspiring.

(You can get a feel for the content by watching the above video, which is all about this year’s Explorers Week.)

Here in the Human Resources section of the University, we’re also embracing the spirit of exploration by developing events and resources that will enable staff at the University to try out new technologies, discover new ways of being, and better explore the personal development opportunities on offer at Essex. Over the next few months, we’ll be engaging University members in various initiatives to promote exploration.

One of the first of these will be the launch of our Digital Confidence Project. Staff will be encouraged to explore their own relationship with technology by completing a Digital Confidence Diagnostic. Once you’ve completed the diagnostic, you’ll be given personalised feedback to help you improve your relationship with technology, along with some simple “tips and tricks” that will make you a more efficient “digital doer”. The diagnostic should be available in the next couple of weeks; as soon as it’s ready we’ll let you know.
