[Service Alert] [Resolved] Problems accessing web based services

Update 11:45am

This problem was traced to a configuration issue in some replacement hardware. It has now been resolved, and users should be able to access the services listed below.

Update 11:00am

A fix has been put in place so users can access these services again.

We are continuing to monitor these services.

We are currently investigating an issue affecting our web based services.

Affected services included:

  • Some University webpages (mainly online forms and secure pages)
  • Moodle
  • Listen Again
  • FASer
  • Sharepoint
  • Other web-based services

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

[Service Alert] Essential maintenance work to IT systems this weekend

UPDATE: 15:05PM Saturday 5 January

The scheduled maintenance work is now complete.
Thank you to our users for their patience.


IT Services will be performing an essential system upgrade between 9am and 5pm on Saturday 5 January 2019.

During this time, many services will be unavailable. This includes but is not limited to:

  • ESIS and attendant student and applicant information systems
  • AppPortal and Web Clearing
  • MyEssex
  • Timetables
  • ESF, EAF and ECF on SharePoint
  • The Accommodation booking systems
  • The PocketEssex App
  • FASER and Listen Again

This upgrade is necessary to prepare our systems for the next academic year.

Work has been undertaken to mitigate the impact of this upgrade, but if you have any concerns please contact Richard Martin.

[Service Alert][Resolved] Problem with FindYourWay room location links in Office 365 calendars

Links have now been restored for FindYourWay within your PocketEssex Diary and Office 365 Calendars.

Problems are still on-going, please accept our apologies for the delay.

Our external partners are in the process of correcting this issue.


We currently have a problem with the links that go to FindYourWay room locations in your diary.

We have identified the problem as being caused by an update to the FindYourWay service which was out of our control.

This is only affecting timetabled teaching events that appear in Office 365 calendars and Pocket Essex. Links contained within the online timetabling website have already been fixed.

We are in the process of correcting this issue and expect this to be fixed by 1pm Wednesday 11 October 2017.

[Resolved] Problems with today’s timetabled events in Outlook and Pocket Essex

UPDATE: 14:44pm This issue is now resolved.

Due to an overnight update failure, some students may find that today’s timetable (13th October) shown in Outlook and Pocket Essex may be incorrect. Students with timetabled events today are strongly advised to check the web-based timetables at https://www.essex.ac.uk/timetables (or mobile version: https://www.essex.ac.uk/timetables/pocket)

It is anticipated that this will be resolved for tomorrow’s timetables (14th October 2015).

Any inconvenience is regretted.
