Changes to FASER – March 2016

Filed under: Elearning, FASER, MEFE, Projects — Benjamin Steeples @ 10:41 am

During the last few months we have been making improvements to FASER, both as part of our ongoing commitment to learning technologies, and as part of Making Electronic Feedback Effective phase 3 project (MEFE 3). Some of our recent improvements include:

  • Departments can ask students if they want the marker to focus feedback in a particular area.
  • Staff can hide feedback for individual students.
  • Departments can upload a feedback cover sheet for each assignment. This cover sheet is subsequently available to markers via the Feedback Assistant, and can be annotated online.
  • It is possible for departments to download all feedback for an assignment.
  • Formative FASER-only assignments can now be deleted.
  • Assignment descriptions can now be formatted.
  • Students can see an overview of all deadlines.
  • Lots of tiny improvements and fixes across FASER.

Looking ahead, we are currently working on:

  • Direct mark entry in FASER
  • Adding action-based feedback to assignments
  • Improved training and support

Changes to FASER

Filed under: Elearning, FASER, MEFE, Uncategorized — Alex ONeill @ 11:13 am

We’ve been beavering away on a few FASER changes in the last few weeks:

  • Staff can now edit comments in the Feedback Assistant.
  • The Feedback Assistant is faster.
  • Student lists are ordered by name.
  • Anyone who can edit assignments can now give permissions to other staff by adding them as a lecturer or second marker.
  • We also now have over 200 beta testers using our new mobile-friendly student pages.
  • The login screen is different:

What’s coming up

  • Rethinking the structure of the student submission downloadable zip files for staff.
  • Getting the Feedback Assistant student list to behave itself when marking (so you don’t have to keep finding the student you were on before).
  • Making a few tweaks to the student pages and then releasing them to all students after the end of term. We will be organising some information for staff so you can get an idea of what the students will see, but meanwhile, here’s a sneak peek…

FASER or FASer?

Filed under: FASER, MEFE — Alex ONeill @ 5:02 pm

You may have noticed two different ways of writing FASER around recently. We’ve changed the name of the system to be written as FASER (all capitals) but it may take us a little while to switch all the references over on the website, so bear with us. We couldn’t quite handle the mixed case…

Apologies for any confusion!
