[Service Alert] Campus network and internet in the Psychology building – Colchester Campus [Restored]

All wireless and wired network connectivity in the Psychology building was lost today Thursday 10th October at 16:10 and was restored at fully at 17.27

This was due to a prior excess of water from a pipe earlier in the day the electrical supply to the network equipment feeding the building was disrupted.

We managed to feed an alternative power source to restore power to the equipment.  We will need to have a brief outage during a future network at-risk period to move the power back once the main feed has been restored.

Network issues in Physics building due to power outage

Power was restored at 4pm 25/09/19

At 12.20 today Wednesday 25th September there was a power outage in the physics building affecting some areas of the network and reliant services such as SIP phones.

Affected areas include 5S.6.XX, some of 4SB.5.XX, some of 4SB.6.XX.

Estates have been informed.

[Service Alert] Problems affecting network and internet access

And we’re back! Network access has been restored. The outage lasted for about 10 minutes (intermittently).

The cause of the problem was outside of our control. Our networks team spotted it quickly and took appropriate action.

If you’re still experiencing problems please restart your computer.


We’re currently experiencing some issues affecting network and internet access. Some websites may also be unavailable.

[Service Alert] Power problem affecting network in 6.1XX area – Colchester Campus

Please be aware that we are experiencing networking disruption this morning in the main campus building 6.1XX area.
Power has been lost to a network node presence due to a blown fuse.

The electrical team is currently working urgently to restore power, the Networks and Telecoms team will then closely monitor the network to ensure a smooth return of service.

We currently predict a return to service of 10:30. The outage will affect some – but not all – of the area in question.
