[Service Alert][Resolved] – Issue with KX/ESIS

There was an issue with KX, ESIS and possibly other systems provided by a central administrative server which had an underlying issue preventing it from providing a service.  It is believe the issue began around 13:00, Saturday 5th October.

The issue was resolved by 13:45 and all systems provided by this server are back online.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.

[Service Alert][Resolved] – Issues accessing central administration systems

From between 03:00 and 11:40 on 14th September 2019 there was an issue with accessing central administration systems, including:

  • ESIS
  • KX
  • OpenVPN service
  • various other systems

The problem has now been resolved and all services are back in service.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused during this outage.

[Service Alert] Essential maintenance work to IT systems this weekend

UPDATE: 15:05PM Saturday 5 January

The scheduled maintenance work is now complete.
Thank you to our users for their patience.


IT Services will be performing an essential system upgrade between 9am and 5pm on Saturday 5 January 2019.

During this time, many services will be unavailable. This includes but is not limited to:

  • ESIS and attendant student and applicant information systems
  • AppPortal and Web Clearing
  • MyEssex
  • Timetables
  • ESF, EAF and ECF on SharePoint
  • The Accommodation booking systems
  • The PocketEssex App
  • FASER and Listen Again

This upgrade is necessary to prepare our systems for the next academic year.

Work has been undertaken to mitigate the impact of this upgrade, but if you have any concerns please contact Richard Martin.

[Service Alert] Scheduled downtime of database services

The scheduled work that was planned for Saturday 21 July has been postponed.


IT Services will be performing an essential upgrade to one of our student database servers (SERNT72) between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 21 July 2018.

During this time, many student and applicant facing services will be unavailable. This includes but is not limited to:

  • ESIS and attendant student and applicant information systems
  • AppPortal and Web Clearing
  • MyEssex
  • ESF, EAF and ECF on SharePoint
  • The Accommodation booking systems
  • The PocketEssex App
  • FASER, and Listen Again

This upgrade is necessary to prepare our systems for clearing and the next academic year.

[Resolved] RE: Problem with some online services that require authentication

The problem affecting some online services that require authentication has now been resolved. This was caused by an automatic Microsoft update that occurred overnight.

If you are still having problems please restart the affected application or your computer.
