[Service Alert] [Resolved] Issues with Panopto and Listen Again

Resolved, 10:04am:

Panopto sign-in services are now available and we believe this issue is now resolved.

Staff and students will be able to sign into Panopto and watch recordings on Listen Again/Moodle.

We will continue to monitor the site. If you experience any further issues, please contact the IT Helpdesk.

We are aware of an issue with signing into Panopto (panopto.essex.ac.uk) to watch recordings.

During this time, staff and students will be unable to log into these services to watch recordings on Listen Again (listenagain.essex.ac.uk), and Panopto pre-recordings on Moodle (moodle.essex.ac.uk).

We are investigating the cause and will restore the service as soon as possible.

[Service Alert][Scheduled] Panopto and Listen Again maintenance periods, August 2021

10th August, 4:30pm
We’ve assigned additional resources to the Panopto and Listen Again services, and they are now functioning as expected.

10th August, 2:15am
We’ve noticed some performance issues with Panopto and Listen Again. We are monitoring the situation and will update once we know more.

10th August, 10:15am
Listen Again has now been returned to service.

Thank you for your patience during this extended maintenance period.

9th August, 5:00pm
The Panopto upgrade has now finished.
Due to some overrunning works, Listen Again will remain unavailable until no later than 5:00pm on Tuesday 10th August.

4th August, 3:00pm
The authentication upgrade has now finished.

Panopto (https://panopto.essex.ac.uk/) and Listen Again (https://listenagain.essex.ac.uk/) are undergoing two maintenance periods in August 2021.

On Wednesday, 4th August from 9:00am until no later than 5:00pm (GMT), whilst we upgrade Panopto’s authentication provider. Panopto will remain available throughout the day, but there may be brief periods where recording, uploading, and playback are restricted.

On Monday, 9th August from 9:00am until no later than 5:00pm (GMT) while we upgrade to the latest version and perform essential system maintenance. Both Panopto and Listen Again will be unavailable throughout this period. The latest version of Panopto will include performance and security improvements, along with bug fixes and new features. You can find full details in the release notes for Panopto version 9 and version 10.

We believe that this issue has now been resolved, but will continue to monitor it.

Identified – 3:54pm

We have identified the cause and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Students requiring access to Listen Again recordings are recommended to use the View Audio and View Video links shown beneath each recording.

We appreciate your patience and will provide an update shortly.

There are currently issues logging in to the following services:

  • ListenAgain/Panopto
  • ERAMS

Others might be affected.

We are currently investigating the cause and will return service as soon as possible.

[Service Alert] Power cut on Colchester campus yesterday evening

There was a power outage at the Colchester campus yesterday which affected a significant number of our IT services. Power was restored at 22:38, however, some computers and other services may still be affected today, such as remoting into your computer on campus.

If you have any issues, please contact the IT Helpdesk, and will help you as soon as we can.

[Resolved] We are making improvements to Panopto and Listen Again

Planned work

Listen Again (https://listenagain.essex.ac.uk/) and Panopto (https://panopto.essex.ac.uk/) will be unavailable on Thursday 23 July and Friday 24 July so that we can upgrade to the latest version of Panopto. We anticipate the work will take two days to complete, but we’ll update you here as soon as it’s done.

The new version of Panopto brings several useful features, including:

  • Machine transcription of new recordings;
  • In-browser video recording;
  • Recycle bin to recover deleted recordings;
  • Improved analytics.

We are sorry that you will be unable to access the above services during this time. Any teaching events taking place in Zoom during this period will be imported into Listen Again and Panopto once they are back up and running.
