All IT Services labs and group study pods will close at 3pm this Friday until 8am Monday morning

In keeping with previous years, due to The End and Summer Ball celebrations this weekend all IT Services labs and group study pods at Colchester Campus will be closed from 3pm on Friday 9 June until 8am on Monday 12 June.

This is with the exception of the Silberrad Student Centre which will be open as usual on Saturday and Sunday, and the Albert Sloman Library (see Library opening hours).

This decision was taken following discussions with the Registrar, University Security manager, Director of IT Services and other IT Services staff.

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.

Network issues following power problems.

There are currently network issues in the following areas of the University:

Area around the Campus shop on floor 6

William Morris tower (staff)

5N.7.17

PC Lab M

4SW.3.3

Thease areas are without network because the power has tripped out to the network devices and we are awaiting Estates to restore power to these areas.

M: drive issues

There was an issue with two m: drive servers (isslx110 and isslx112) this morning from 07:10 to approximately 08:15. The issue is now resolved. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Opening times for IT labs and spaces over the Easter weekend

Colchester Campus

From 4pm on Thursday 13 April until 8am on Tuesday 18 April:

  • IT labs A, C, D, E, G, the Silberrad Learning Hub, Library large reading room and PG reading room will remain open 24 hours each day.
  • The Orangery will open on request via the Information Desk between the hours of 9am and 10pm each day.

The Limehouse and other IT Services labs will be closed.

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.

Problems affecting some M: drives (My Documents etc)

Unfortunately, the problems affecting M: drive servers on the evening of 11th April returned tonight (12th April). All issues have now been resolved and we now believe that we have pinpointed the configuration change that caused the problem.


 

We’re pleased to report that all M: drive servers are now operating normally. Staff will investigate the underlying causes of the failure in the morning. Apologies for any disruption. Note that you may need to reboot your computer if you were affected and are still unable to get to your documents.


 

A full service has now been restored for 3/4 of those affected by this system problem. We are expecting the remainder to be fixed by 0200. Further information will only be posted once the issue has been resolved for everyone affected.


We’re currently experiencing a problem with two M: drive servers. If you have trouble logging in to a PC on campus or find that your documents aren’t present once you have logged in, you are probably one of those affected. We’re working to restore service as soon as possible.
