[Service Alert] [Resolved] Home directory server unavailable

One of the servers providing home directories crashed last night (15/10/2018) at around 2030 hrs. It was rebooted at 0745 this morning. The cause of the problem is being investigated.

 

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.

[Service alert] [Resolved] Problem with door card readers

Salto card readers, that control door access, are currently down.

Engineers are working to resolve the issue, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and will update this service alert once the issue has been resolved.

We have been advised that the issues are now resolved.

The suppliers of Pocket Essex, CampusM, have advised us that problems with the app are continuing into a second day.

Students may have problems trying to sign in to the Pocket Essex mobile app, and may experience slow performance once the app has loaded.

We are working with the suppliers of the app to find a resolution.

[Service Alert][Resolved] Issue with central server – Friday 14th September to Monday 17th September

There was an issue with a central administrative server (serlx28) from 17:30 on Friday 14th September to 07:30 on Monday 17th September.

The server became unresponsive and may have affected the following services:

  • Password change web form
  • Applicant portal (including get-account and pre-arrival functionality)
  • Webmail off Campus
  • Library website from off Campus
  • Any other site which uses feds.essex.ac.uk to authenticate signing in from off Campus

The server was restarted at 07:30 this morning with all services coming back online.  The cause of the issue is being investigated.

[Service Alert] Problem affecting multiple analogue telephone extensions.

Original Alert, 14 September 2018: approx 250 extensions have been affected by what appears to be a component failure. The system maintainer has been informed; we expect an engineer to attend to site on Monday 17 September 2018.

Affected extensions will get a continuous tone which indicates Number Unobtainable.

Information Update, 17 September 2018: The faulty component was replaced over the weekend. Testing this morning has confirmed that all extensions are expected to be working normally,
