Planned work

We’re doing some work on the University’s Sign-in page to make it more reliable. This is the page you see when you sign in to services like Moodle, Webmail and Box.

The work is happening on:

  • Friday 1 May between 8.00am and 08:30am

Many online services, including Webmail, Moodle and Box will be at-risk of disruption during this time.

We’ll update you here as soon as the work is finished. Thanks as always for your patience.


Friday 1 May 2020 – 0748

The work was completed early. There should be no disruption, but if you do experience any problems access Webmail, Moodle and Box etc from a web browser please first try restarting your browser. If problems persist, please contact the IT Helpdesk.

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.

Scheduled maintenance for FASER

We’ll be making some behind the scenes changes to FASER today at 5pm to keep ahead of rising demand.

FASER will be unavailable during this period, which should last for up to an hour. There are no assignment deadlines during this time, but any students wishing to submit their work should wait until later today before attempting any uploads.

We’ll keep this blog post updated with more information as it follows.

iTrent/ People Manager/ HR Organiser Maintenance – Monday 20 April 2020

Commercial Applications will be carrying out essential system maintenance at 8.30am on Monday 20th April 2020. During this time the following services will be unavailable:

  •            iTrent
  •            HR Organiser
  •            People Manager
  •            Web Recruitment
  •            External Examiner Nomination Portal

It is anticipated that the system will be unavailable for around 20 minutes, notification will be made to users once it is available for use again.

We apologise that you will be unable to access these services during this time, if you have any queries please email bsthelp@essex.ac.uk.

Update, 4/5/20 9.25pm

All work completed successfully by 9:20pm.  The server has been returned to service

 

Update, 30/4/20 7.30am

The underlying issue has been resolved and we are now ready to proceed with the original upgrade.

The work will now take place on:

  • Monday 4 May between 9.00pm and 10.00pm

Unfortunately you won’t be able to access Remote Desktop Server (sernt43) during this time.

Update, 20/4/20 10.00am

We did not do the planned work as we found an underlying issue with the system we needed to upgrade.

We are investigating this new issue with the suppliers and will re-schedule any work needed.

Further updates will be posted here once more information is available.
