[Resolved] Major outage: web services offline – investigations urgently being carried out

Further work was carried out this morning and all services are back online.  Apologies for any inconvenience.


Update: 21/09/19

Further work was carried out this morning from 07:00 to 07:30 and systems are now stable.


Update 16:55 – We will be undertaking some remedial action to address the underlying cause of these problems tomorrow, Saturday 21st September, between the hours of 7am and 8.30am. We anticipate there will be some loss of services during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused whilst this essential work is being undertaken. Further updates will be provided should the work take longer than anticipated.

Update 09:32 – The website and other services affected by this issue are now back up and running. We are still working on addressing the cause and it may be necessary for more work to be carried out which may further disrupt service availability. We will post an update with more information as soon as possible,

We are currently experiencing a major service outage of web services. Affected includes:

Main websites (www.essex.ac.uk / www1.essex.ac.uk)

SharePoint (edrm.essex.ac.uk / sp.essex.ac.uk)

Learning Technology sites (Moodle / Panopto / FaSER)

Also affected: feds.essex.ac.uk – so users may not be able to access webmail and other authenticated web services off site.

Work is urgently being carried out. Updates will be posted as they are known
