Printing issues in the Library

We are aware that some of our users are experiencing intermittent printing issues on the Multi Function Devices within the library.

The cause of these issues is currently being investigated.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing and suggest that, until this issue is resolved, our users use the printers in other areas for any time critical printing.

[Service Alert][Resolved]Southend fileserver unavailable – 14th Feb 2019

The server which provides fileshare access to Southend users (sernt5.essex.ac.uk) was unavailable today from 08:15 until 09:10.

The server is now back online.

FASER has now returned to normal service.

We are seeing continued spikes of activity and can confirm that this issue hasn’t been resolved yet.

We are investigating further, and will update this blog when we know further.

We now believe the issues affecting FASER have been resolved, and are continuing to monitor the situation. Thank you for your patience.

We are aware of issues with FASER where page load times are extremely slow.

Additional to page load times, staff and students are also receiving errors when accessing modules within FASER.

We are looking into the problem now, and will update this post as soon as possible.

The library search engine is still under maintenance.

When attempting to search the library, users are being taken to the library ‘classic’ catalogue rather than the usual library search.

The library is working to get this fixed as soon as possible and in the meantime there are workarounds in place here:

The Library will be performing maintenance on their website search engine, Encore, overnight on February 12th February between 00:00 and 08:00am.

During this time, you will not be able to use the library search. However, alternative methods for searching books, e-books and online articles can be found on the following website: https://library.essex.ac.uk/lsmain

[Service alert] [Resolved] Issues with Annotate on FASER

We’ve disabled annotate from FASER, to allow its background processes to finish.

Staff who attempt to annotate student submissions online will be expected to see a generic error.

We are aware of students and staff who are having difficulties with the following:

  • Students uploading submissions to FASER assignments is showing errors that there are issues with converting your submission.
  • Staff are receiving errors when annotating work online

For students, please note this does not affect your submission, and your department will be able to access your uploaded file(s).

This is caused by the online annotation service used in faser.essex.ac.uk timing out.

We are looking into the problem currently, and hope to get this issue resolved as soon as possible.
