[Service Alert] New phishing email “help me get an iTunes card”

Filed under: Email, Security, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — Dan Jolly @ 4:54 pm

A new, targeted phishing scam is doing the rounds. This particular email asks for help to get an iTunes card. This is a scam. If you receive it, don’t action it, just delete it.

As always, if something doesn’t look quite right, it probably is a scam, so remain vigilant. You can report suspicious emails to phishing@essex.ac.uk

[Resolved] Issues affecting some FASER users

Filed under: FASER, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — Benjamin Steeples @ 9:46 am

We are aware that some users of FASER (https://faser.essex.ac.uk/) were encountering a ‘Session timed out’ or ‘New to FASER’ loop, which prevented them from using the service.

This affected a small number of users between 14:00 on Thursday 22 November, and 09:30 Friday 23 November. A workaround is now in place which should prevent the above loop.

Scheduled Maintenance: PG EAF and UG EAF sites and forms, Tuesday 20 November 5pm-7pm

Filed under: SharePoint, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — Sharon Steeples @ 11:20 am

In order to roll-out a software upgrade to our workflow forms engine (Collagen), the SharePoint Team will be undertaking essential maintenance on the SharePoint PG EAF and UG EAF sites, and the Admissions forms used by these sites, between 5pm and 7pm this evening (Tuesday 20 November 2018).

Collagen Engine runs UG/PG Decision Review Forms, and the PG Dean Approval Form.

Staff should not attempt to use, or create, any forms during the maintenance period, as any changes made whilst the roll-out is happening will be lost.

Changes will also be made which affect the task screens within UG EAF and PG EAF, so anyone using those during the roll-out will have a sub-optimal experience.

[Service Alert] Silent calls experienced on some SIP phones

Filed under: Telephone, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — Andy Tyne @ 10:36 am

Information Update; 15 November 2018:

We have identified a probable cause for the reported problems and remedial action has been taken.

We will continue to monitor the situation, if further incidents occur please send the details as described above .

Original Alert; 14 November 2018:

We are receiving intermittent and random reports from different SIP phone users that for some answered calls there is silence instead of the callers voice, however it becomes clear the caller is able to hear the SIP phone user’s voice.

The problem has been reported to our system maintainer and trunk services provider who are actively looking into the problem. IT Services colleagues are also monitoring relevant systems and and infrastructure.

We would like to gather data on the incidence of these events to help identify the cause and ask for the following details:

  • Date and time
  • Caller’s number – this will be shown on the display screen and available by pressing Menu > 2 (Call History) > 2 (Received Calls)

Please send any reports to telephones@essex.ac.uk using the subject line: 20181114 SIP phone silent caller issue
