[Scheduled Alert] Power shutdown and testing at Southend Campus on Sunday 26 March 2017

Buildings across Southend Campus will be subject to a shutdown and power test on Sunday 26 March 2017. This scheduled maintenance work will affect access to some buildings, and some IT services may be unavailable.

IT Services staff will be on site and monitoring remotely to ensure services resume as expected. All buildings will resume usual opening hours on Monday 27 March.

Buildings and services affected:

The Forum

  • The Learning Hub (second floor) will be closed to all staff and students between 8am and 10am (you will be asked to leave at 7.45am)
  • The rest of the Forum including the Library will be closed for the whole day
  • The Learning Hub will be accessible through the out-of-hours side entrance before 8am and after 10am, but no other parts of The Forum will be accessible on that day.
  • Some IT services, for example wifi, may be unavailable between 1.30pm and 4.00pm
  • UPDATE (11:10) The Learning Hub is now accessible to students. We are aware of an issue that is causing some of the machines in the Open Study Space to be without power and are investigating
  • UPDATE (11:47) All issues relating to Open Study Space power have been resolved. We are aware of an issue preventing the use of the Open Study Space Pods
  • UPDATE (12:12) All issues relating to Open Study Space Pods have been resolved

University Square

  • University Square will be powered down between 10am and 1pm
  • During this time lifts will be out of action, wired and wireless internet may be inaccessible and areas will be without power/lighting
  • The study facilities in The Forum’s Learning Hub will be accessible during this period
  • UPDATE (13:08) Power has been restored throughout University Square

Gateway Building

  • Closed to all staff and students for the whole of Sunday 26 March
  • UPDATE (17:25) Power has been restored throughout Gateway Building. Some isolated power issues currently being investigated. Eduroam not currently available within Gateway, University Square and Clifftown Studios
  • UPDATE (18:41) Isolated power issues have been resolved. Eduroam is unlikely to be available within Gateway, University Square and Clifftown Studios until Monday morning (27/03/2017)
  • UPDATE (10:34 27/03/2017) Eduroam issues have now been resolved

Clifftown Studios

  • Closed to all staff and students for the whole of Sunday 26 March
  • UPDATE (18:53) Difficulties experienced during power down resulting in the sourcing of a temporary solution for power. Temporary solution expected to be in place by the evening and ready for building opening on Monday (27.03/2017). Additional works will be needed to switch from temporary to business-as-usual solution
