[Service Alert] New phishing scam email “You have 1 new schedule message” DO NOT ACTION

Please be aware of a new phishing scam email that has been sent to some University members.

If you receive an email with the subject “New schedule message” with a link which takes you to what looks like the Essex Moodle homepage, DO NOT click the link and DO NOT log in, this is a scam.

The email looks like this:


The “Log In” link takes you to a website that looks just like the Essex Moodle homepage, but this is in fact a spoof website (and a very good one) trying to steal your Essex login details. You can tell this is not the genuine Essex Moodle homepage by looking at the URL in the address bar (see below). This should be



IT Services is taking necessary actions to block further emails from this sender as well as blocking the spoof Moodle website.


If you think you have received a scam or phishing email, stay calm and delete it – there’s no harm in simply receiving a phishing email.
