[Service Alert] Intermittent problem with Office 365 email

We currently have a problem affecting some users trying to connect to the email service when using Outlook. This is indicated by Outlook reporting a status of ‘disconnected’, ‘trying to connect’, or ‘retrieving data from the server’.

Users may be able to connect using Outlook Web Access (OWA) at https://email.essex.ac.uk
The cause of the problem is being investigated by Microsoft. More information to follow

This has now been resolved.

Moodle is now stable, and service has resumed.

We are narrowing down the root cause of the issue.

Moodle, FASER and Listen Again are now operating normally.

Issues affecting Moodle, FASER, and Listen Again have reoccurred and are ongoing. The cause is being investigated.

Moodle, FASER and Listen Again are now operating normally.

The cause is still being investigated, but we believe it was due to a high number of connections and queries from one of the above services.

 

Note that the following services will be unavailable between 10:00pm and 10:30pm on Tuesday 24 January 2017 in order to add additional hardware:

  • MoodleX (http://moodlex.essex.ac.uk)
  • FASER (https://www.essex.ac.uk/e-learning/tools/faser/)

[Resolved] ORB and Listen Again unavailable

Listen Again (http://listenagain.essex.ac.uk) and ORB (http://orb.essex.ac.uk) were unavailable between approximately 7:30am and 7:30pm on Sunday 22 January 2017.

This appears to have been caused by a runaway process on the server that hosts these two sites. Additional monitoring has been put in place.
