[Resolved] Planned maintenance of telephone system – replacing aging components – 19 December 2016

The planned work to move services from aging equipment to new equipment has been completed ahead of time, with no reported problems.

All those contacted prior to the event have been provided with updated information.

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.

*UPDATED* Christmas 2016 opening hours for IT labs and spaces

Colchester Campus

*UPDATED* IT lab N will now stay open 24 hours, but E  and I will close.

From 12pm on Friday 23 December 2016 until 8am on Tuesday 3 January 2017:

  • the Silberrad Learning Hub and IT labs A, C, D, G and N will be open 24hrs.
  • The Orangery will be opened ‘on request’ via the Information Desk between the hours of 9am to 10pm each day.
  • The Library PG reading room will be open 24 hours throughout.
  • The Limehouse, IT Helpdesk, and all other IT Services labs will be closed.

This is with the exception of the period 7pm 31st December 2015 until 7am 1st January 2016 when all IT Services labs, Learning Hub, the Orangery and the Limehouse will be closed.

Southend Campus

Access to the Learning Hub (The Forum) during the following two periods will be via the North access (SMACS) door:

  • 1pm on Saturday 24 December 2016 re-opening on Wednesday 28 December 2016
  • 5pm on Saturday 31 December 2016 re-opening on Tuesday 3 January 2017

IT Lab 1, IT Lab 2, Student Common Room, E15 Mac Lab, and the rest of the Gateway Building will be closed to students and staff during the following two periods:

  • 5pm on Saturday 24 December 2016 re-opening on Wednesday 28 December 2016
  • 5pm on Saturday 31 December 2016 re-opening on Monday 2 January 2017

Clifftown IT Lab, and the rest of Clifftown Studios will be closed to students and staff during the following period:

  • 10pm on Friday 22 December 2016 re-opening on Tuesday 3 January 2017

Loughton Campus

The E15 (Hatfields House) and GRR (Roding House) IT labs will be closed from 12pm on Friday 23 December 2016 until 8am on Tuesday 3 January 2017.

[Service Alert] Planned maintenance of telephone system – replacing aging components – 19 December 2016

IT Services will be moving a number of analogue telephone extensions from an aging part of the system to new components. This will be carried out in 4 phases each starting on the hour from 09:00, 19 December 2016. The anticipated period of disruption for each phase is up to 2 hrs, however we expect  it to be less than this.

Each batch will affect a range of locations at the same time. We have contacted all those users our records will allow us to, however we expect that some will have been missed due to information changes we are not aware of. If during the work, you believe you have been affected please email telephones@essex.ac.uk or contact the IT Services Helpdesk – it.helpdesk@essex.ac.uk, extn 2345 (from another phone naturally!).

We are doing this work as the aging parts of the system are no longer supported by our system maintainer and to rationalise the system.

We apologise for any unanticipated disconnections and for the inevitable disruption this may cause.

Confirmation of completion of each phase will follow.

[Service Alert] Disruption to SharePoint Services for planned maintenance 5:00pm to 6:00pm today (Monday 12 December)

Users may experience a disruption to SharePoint Services between 5:00pm and 6:00pm this evening (Monday 12th December). This is to accommodate essential maintenance work on the servers to roll-out storage locations for incoming ESF/EAF/ECF files to be received in the new year (2017). Some brief (less than five minutes) service outage will occur. Any inconvenience is regretted.

[Resolved] Delays in FASER Watermarking

Due to a problematic submission, FASER watermarking was unavailable between 6:30am and 4:30pm on Thursday 08 December 2016.

This problem was rectified at 4:30pm and the backlog of watermarked files was cleared by 5:00pm.

Other parts of FASER were unaffected.
