Watch Lynda anytime, anywhere from any device

Good news! IT Services has renewed our Lynda.com site licence just in time for the arrival of our new students. For the next three years, all staff and students have free and unlimited access to Lynda’s massive online video library.

You can watch what you want, when you want, from any device. Lynda is packed full of great features, like searchable Transcripts that allow you to jump to interesting parts in a video; Playlists that you can create, modify and share with your friends; Bookmarks that allow you to come back to the best sections later; and Notes so you can remember the important bits.

Use for teaching

One of the ways IT Services is looking to promote Lynda.com is by encouraging academic staff to explore ways in which Lynda.com content can be used in the module curriculum to supplement teaching and enhance the student learning experience. We’ll be coming along to Departmental Meetings to talk about Lynda, so if you are interested in knowing more, please have a word with your Departmental Administrator to find out when we’ll be visiting your department.

The Teaching with Lynda video by Aaron Quigley and Matt Fishbach is a great introduction to how Lynda can be used in teaching (just use your Essex ID and password to login); and we have also created a short screencast tutorial on How to integrate Lynda.com videos into Moodle here at Essex.

Use for personal development

Lynda offers thousands of high-quality courses and learning pathways from industry experts on Business, Creative Design, Education, Audio and Music, Developer, Web and Photography. Lynda’s wide range of topics means there’s something for everyone. You can learn at your own pace, build confidence, and learn new skills which will look great on your CV. Lynda gives you the opportunity to discover what you love and find your passion.

Login today and learn something new.

[Service Alert] Scheduled maintenance on telephone system on Tuesday 20 September affecting all campuses

Filed under: Telephone, [Resolved], [Service Alert] — Andy Tyne @ 5:03 pm

Information update – 20 September 2016, 13:25;

The maintenance work has achieved the stated goals, however there is a residual problem of some extensions not getting a dial tone when calling external numbers. The system maintainer is working to correct this issue.

Original Alert

Use of the entire telephone system will be disrupted between 06:00 and 08:00 on Tuesday 20 September 2016, whilst system upgrades are applied to all campus exchange systems and the operators call handling software. During this time there will be no access to:

  • All inbound and outbound calls
  • Leaving and retrieving University voicemail from any location (internal and external)
  • Using lift emergency systems on the Colchester Campus only – explicitly not affecting The Quays and The Meadows accommodation.
  • Alarm auto dialler calls that use an internal number
  • All calls to the Nursery, Sports Centre, Information Centre and Nightline
  • All calls from student accommodation emergency phones to university extension numbers

During this time all emergency calls should be made to our security team on 07748 704529 or 01206 864634 at Colchester

This work will fix a call transferring problem that affects the operator’s and will allow the implementation of new enhanced services across the system.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
