[Resolved] Telephone number porting to new provider

The scheduled work was completed later than expected at around 1700. However, the actual disruption has been minimal. All number ranges have now successfully been ported to our new provider.

Information Update: 11:25

We have just been informed that the porting process has encountered a delay porting the numbers 3000 – 4999 of at least 2 hrs. We therefore expect the period of potential disruption to last until at least 14:00.

The number 2000 – 2999 have been ported successfully.

With reference to the email message of Thursday 28 January 2016 to Colchester staff (HR) (staff-colchester) – Essential improvement works to telephone system – this is to notify that the porting process has begun and is expected to be completed by 12:00, 1 February 2016.

The move will only affect incoming calls.  It means that when your number is being moved:

  • An incoming call that is in progress may get cut off during the process
  • A new caller may receive user busy or unobtainable during the process

We advise that you ask the caller for their number at the start of the call so you can call them back if you get cut off or ask them to call you on your mobile.

Outgoing calls will continue to work as normal during this changeover.
