Important changes to how you connect to eduroam wi-fi

Filed under: News, Wi-Fi — Dan Jolly @ 1:04 pm

When you connect to eduroam you’re asked to enter your username and password. Currently you can enter your username in three different ways:

  1. username
    or
  2. campus\username
    or
  3. username@essex.ac.uk

However from Monday 7 September you will only be able to connect to eduroam using the format username@essex.ac.uk.

You will not be able to connect using just username or campus\username.

What you need to do

If you already connect using the format username@essex.ac.uk then you don’t need to do anything.

If you don’t then you will need to update your connection settings. It only takes a minute so we recommend you do this as soon as possible.

We’ll be sending out reminder emails if we notice you’re still connecting to eduroam wi-fi using incorrect formats.

Update your connection settings

On your device, go to the connection settings for eduroam wi-fi and make sure your username/identity is in the format username@essex.ac.uk after it. Like so:

wifi-yes wifi-no

If you can’t find the settings for this it may be easier to forget/remove eduroam wi-fi and then re-add it.

Guidance on how to set up your device can be found at www.essex.ac.uk/it/eduroam.
