People Supporting Strategy

The People Supporting Strategy is the blueprint around which we will build improvements to our processes and the way we do things at the University. One of the first ways our HR team aims to make these improvements is through better use of the HR Organiser system.

Why are we moving to an online system?

HR Organiser provides the University with a secure integrated system where everyone has access to and ownership of their own data and that data is dealt with consistently across the board. It will reduce the need for entering HR data in multiple places and reduce paperwork, giving all of us access to the information we need to do our jobs.

National Coming Out Day

Essex-LGBT-AllianceEvery year on 11th October, National Coming Out Day continues to promote a safe world for LGBT individuals to live truthfully and openly. It recognises that Coming Out is one of the most important moments in the lives of an LGBT person. Each individual who speaks up changes more hearts and minds, and creates new advocates for equality.

It takes courage to trust the world with your true self.

We’ve giving you three options to vote for (having a clear purpose, having strong meeting leadership or having the people in the room). We also want to know about the things you do to get the best out of meetings.

Last month we asked you whether you know that the University has a flexible working policy and about your experience of flexible working at the University.

We had over 300 responses, 75% of whom knew about our flexible working policy, 23% did not, and 2% were unsure.

Networking and exchanging ideas with fellow colleagues at Essex is fundamental to our community. There are endless ways you can connect with others as highlighted previously, and online, social or virtual networking is fast becoming the norm in the professional and academic environment. An article by Ron Pauleyan Academic Liaison Librarian agrees that social media networking can improve connections to fellow researchers, as well as being a platform for acquiring and sharing expertise.

This month we are looking at flexible working. Answer our third question of the month to tell us about your experience of flexible working at the University.

  • 35% of those who responded indicated that August was the month they felt the least pressure,
  • 19% said it was December and
  • 18% said the whole year was pressurised – there was no let-up.
