Managing sickness absence in HR Organiser

What will it mean for me?

If you are absent from work due to illness, you will report your sickness as you do now, in line with the University policy. A period of sickness will be opened in People Manager, and you will receive an email to your work address confirming this. On your return to work, you will log onto HR Organiser and close the period of sickness, confirming that you are back at work.

When you return to work, you may need to attend a ‘return to work’ interview with the person you report to. This is only an informal discussion, to ensure that you are well enough to be back at work.

There will be reminder emails sent to you and the person you report to if you are absent for more than seven days, to ensure continued support in accordance with the sickness absence policy.

Why is this happening?

The University is moving to an online system to make our processes more efficient, reducing paperwork – saving you time and effort.

It will also allow us to collect information in one place, enabling us to spot problems and take action. This responds to feedback you gave us in the Staff Survey about, for example, levels of workplace stress. It also means that monthly returns and manual self-certificates are not needed, as the online record provides all of the required information.

When is this happening?

There has been a staggered rollout from January 2016 for all Professional Services. It will be rolled out to Faculties from July 2016.

What is HR Organiser?

HR Organiser is the University’s online self-service HR system. HR Organiser is easy to use and will make your experience with HR quicker and easier, saving you time.

You can already access your payslips, book annual leave, and book training and development. Over the coming months, sickness absence recording, expenses and HR records will all move onto the new system.

Where can I get help?

We have arranged ‘Using HR Organiser’ sessions, so you can familiarise yourself with the new developments of HR Organiser. These sessions will give you a chance to explore and practice the recording of annual leave and sickness absence based on your actual access; they will also look at the role of People Manager in these processes.
