IT disruption Tuesday 5 November

Due to essential maintenance work, the main IT datacentre will be taken offline on Tuesday 5 November between 00:00 hours and 07:00 hours.

Although every effort has been made to minimise disruption to core IT services, the following service will be unavailable during the stated times:

  • ListenAgain lecture playback

Users may also notice a five minute drop in internet connectivity on Tuesday 5 November, sometime between the hours of 07:00 and 09:00, due to work being carried out by our external provider.

Should there be any problems during this window the break may be extended. We apologise for any inconvenience these disruptions may cause.

The web version has also been updated. Download the updated app from Google or Apple iTunes.

Around 2,500 people each day are now using the app, but we know more will find it useful once they discover it, so please continue to spread the word and the web address.

The developers are keen to encourage feedback to make ongoing improvements, so please use the in-built feedback form on the web and apps with your ideas or suggestions.

All our campus maps are available on the find your way page of our website.

The minimum top-up amount is five pence. The kiosk accepts coins and notes – not cards.

E-mail account upgrade

Filed under: Colchester, Loughton, News, Southend — Tags: , , , — Communications, CER @ 8.53 am

All undergraduate and postgraduate taught student e-mail accounts have been migrated and upgraded to Microsoft Office 365.  The key benefits to you are: Monitor-(410)200x300

  • 500 times more e-mail storage space (100MB to 50GB) in the “cloud”; and
  • an improved platform for scalability and future online collaboration.

Re-configuring your e-mail client If you use Outlook Web Access (http://email.essex.ac.uk), the transition should be seamless and you will notice only some slight changes in the interface. You will access your account in the same way, though you will see an additional login prompt. If you are using another method of reading your email (eg Outlook, Thunderbird, iPhone, Andriod etc) you may need to refer to the FAQ pages to re-configure your client following the migration. If you still experience problems please e-mail the IT Helpdesk at desk@essex.ac.uk or call +44 1206 85 2345 (or ext. 2345). They will ask you some questions to determine exactly what the problem is. Read more about  these changes in our IT blog.
