Count-me-in attendance readers are being installed in all teaching rooms

Our Count-me-in project is progressing well and our first set of card readers have now been installed in the Tony Rich Teaching Centre, the Lecture Theatre Building (LTB) and in Level 2 of the Gateway Building in Southend.

The readers will not be used until we officially launch the system in October this year, which means that for the academic year 2014-15 onwards, you will need to tap into your registration card against the reader to record your attendance at teaching sessions.

The reader will allow us to record your attendance and to recognise those students whose attendance is low and who might need our help or support. The system will only apply to taught students, not to our research students.

We will communicate any further instructions regularly as we approach the launch date. Your departmental staff will also be trained in how to use the data that the readers produce.

Moving from a paper based system to an electronic one will cut down the amount of time staff spend on data entry, freeing them up to support our students more effectively.

Our Count Me In information on the Campus Updates page contains a comprehensive list of FAQs which should answer any questions you might have, but if you would like to find out more please contact the project team at countmein@essex.ac.uk

Don’t forget to sign your attendance sheet

A big thank you for everyone who took part in classroom tests of the new attendance monitors last month. The tests were successful so we’re now rolling out phase two, so keep an eye them because they will appear in lots more classrooms over next months. We will start using them next year so until then don’t forget to still sign in on your attendance sheets.
