Local Government Elections – Thursday 3 May

Filed under: News — ckeitch @ 3.24 pm

The next Local Government Elections will be held on Thursday 3 May 2018.

If you’re currently registered to vote and your details have not changed, you do not need to re-register.

If you’ve never registered to vote, or have recently moved, you can register online.

If you don’t know if  you are already registered, just contact your local electoral registration office.

If you want to vote in the election on 3 May, the latest date you can register is 17 April.

Can I vote at home and at university?

If your home and university addresses are in two different local authority areas, you can vote in local elections in both areas.

Please be aware, however, even if you are registered in two areas – at home and at university – you can only vote in one parliamentary constituency at a general election. It is a criminal offence to vote twice in a UK parliamentary election.

The Colchester Borough Council election on 3 May is a local election. So for this election you can vote in the Colchester election and at your home address (if elections are being held there).

Where to vote

You can check where your polling station is online.

You will have a specific polling station allocated to you based on where you live, so your polling station may not necessarily be the one on campus.
