Welcome to Southend

Filed under: News — Heather Leathley @ 8.17 am

The car is packed, there’s just about room to squeeze you all in. How do you manage to unload it all when you arrive at your University of Essex campus?

Just follow the signs to University Square and then pop the car in the car park (paying) below our accommodation (fondly known as the Lego building). After registering, you can grab hold of a trolley and a helpful student and start unloading.

There’s a big Sainsbury’s supermarket opposite University Square where you might want to do a final big shop before heading off. It is open 10.00 am until 4.00 pm on Sundays.  In each kitchen in University Square you will find some cotton tote bags which can be used to carry back the shopping.

You might fancy a stroll on the promenade before heading home. It’s a great way to blow off the cobwebs and a good excuse to enjoy an ice-cream.

See you there!

Welcome to Colchester

You’ll pick up the signs as you arrive in Colchester which will take you through to the parkland campus. When you get there, head to the Sports Centre to register. Then we’ll direct you to the nearest car park for your accommodation choice.

Here you’ll find loads of trolley to carry everything through and lots of students keep to help (they’ve been training at the gym all year just for this day).

If you are planning a supermarket run to Tesco’s, we advise getting there as early as possible. By mid-afternoon on arrivals day it can be very chaotic.

You may want to leave the new undergraduate to acclimatise before you say yourfarewells.  Please do join us at Wivenhoe House hotel on campus between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm for free tea and scones.  Colleagues will be on hand there to answer any questions you may have.

See you there!

Why settle for one Fireworks Night when you can have seven? Yes, the fantastic seafront display celebrating Southend retaining its Purple Flag safety award, returns on Saturday 7 October running every Saturday until 18 November.  To launch the season on 7 October, there’s a line-up of bands to keep the evening lively.

Busy bees

Your Students’ Union has been busy over the summer. There’s a new, free to use, cashpoint machine in the SU Lounge and a TV equipped with Freeview in the Common Room at University Square.  The team is also on the lookout for course reps who volunteer to support fellow students.
