Changes in Government policy being introduced in August 2014 have prompted changes to the innovative partnership between the University, the Edge Foundation and Kaplan to deliver the Edge Hotel School.

The priority of all the partners is to ensure the School continues to develop as a centre of excellence in work-based degree level education.

The policy changes mean that students on higher education programmes delivered by alternative providers like Kaplan would only have access to a £6,000 per year student loan. As this would leave Kaplan unable to deliver the School’s degree courses on a commercially sustainable basis, Kaplan has decided to withdraw from the Edge Hotel School. Arrangements are now being put in place to develop a new body with charitable status to deliver the Edge Hotel School education, while the University will continue to validate and award the School’s degrees.

A Project Director will be appointed to oversee the transition. The University remains committed to our partnership with Kaplan, including expanding University of Essex Online and exploring other partnership opportunities.

Aside from this change, at Wivenhoe House hotel, Damir Terzic has been appointed the new General Manager. Damir has significant experience in managing boutique hotels as well as working at Edge Hotel School and looks forward to further strengthening the relationship between the Hotel and the School. He replaces Stephen Mannock, who is moving to a new venture in Gloucestershire.

The University of Essex will moderate comments and there will be a delay before any posts appear.
