Swedish delegates heard about our learning technologies at Colchester Campus

Colleagues from Linkoping University in Sweden visited our Colchester campus to find out more about how we use new technology in our teaching, learning, communications and the transfer of information.

A 12-strong team from the University, including its Vice Chancellor and a representative from the Leadership Foundation, met with our Learning and Development and Information Systems Services teams to learn more about how we use our virtual learning environment, Moodle, Listen Again, IT pods and other technological learning aids.

The visiting delegates also heard about how we are developing an integrated e-submission, feedback and assessment system that will deliver feedback to students in an easier and more engaging way.

The visit, which was organised by the Leadership Foundation’s International department, was a great opportunity to share knowledge and best practice in this fast developing area.

Linköping University was granted full university status in 1975 and is now one of Sweden’s largest academic institutions

ISS launch new website

Filed under: Campus news, Latest news — Tags: , — Communications, CER @ 1:59 pm

Our Information Systems Services (ISS) team have launched their new website

The redesigned and restructured site aims to deliver a better user experience by improving the accessibility and usability of the web pages.

Among the new features and improvements the new website will:

  • Get you to a solution more quickly and easily
  • Perform better on a range of devices
  • Make prominent popular support topics
  • Better inform you of news and announcements

What’s moved and where? How will this affect you?

The redesign has seen the amalgamation of the following ‘older style’ websites:

  • Computing Services (CS)
  • Information Systems Services (ISS)
  • Management Information Systems (MIS)

If you frequently access information on any of the above web pages, please bear in mind this information will be moving and links to existing pages will be broken. ISS will do their best to minimise this by using automatic redirection on key pages.

In the coming weeks the ISS team will be redesigning the Audio Visual ServicesMedia Centre and eLearning websites. More information about the redesign will appear closer to the launch date.

People Manager is part of iTrent, our HR and payroll system

Say goodbye to lost paper records and duplication – say hello to People Manager.

People Manager is a management self-service tool that will allow for real-time sickness reporting and online annual leave authorisation. It will also bring administrative benefits like making lost paper records and duplication things of the past.

Like HR Organiser, People Manager is also driven by iTrent – the core HR and Payroll system.  The iTrent system has a range of uses and modules which are being introduced in phases,  helping us simplify and bring consistency to our management tasks.

People Manager will be piloted within HR, Finance, ISS and UKDA before a phased roll-out to ensure a smooth transition across the University.  All Professional Services sections will go live from 1 April 2014 followed by the Faculties over the next 12 months.

Look out for up-dates in Essex Weekly over the coming weeks
