Grab your grub and pay with your phone

Filed under: Latest news — Tags: — Communications Office @ 4:59 pm

Cashless payment has been introduced at some of our Colchester Campus catering outlets with a money-off voucher for the first 100 people who sign up to the new scheme.

Already in use at several UK universities, the payment system, called Yoyo, allows users to pay direct from their mobile phone after downloading Yoyo on the App Store or Google Play and topping up their account. Your phone is then scanned at the till after you have made your purchases.

It has been introduced at Blues, Fusion, Happy Days, Canteen and Refresh.

Yoyo users collect loyalty points and will receive special offers directly to their phone. A £5 top-up will be added to the first 100 people who quote this code: ESXLAUNCH.

All the tills will still be able to accept cash and payment by debit or credit cards is also being introduced throughout.

University Quays

Ownership of our University Quays student accommodation transfers from the University to Uliving from 5 July. Uliving is also developing, and will be operating, The Meadows, the new accommodation for 650 students adjoining The Quays which opens for the autumn term.

The University will be working in partnership with Uliving, which will be providing the management, cleaning, caretaking and maintenance services for The Quays and The Meadows, to ensure our students continue to receive a high quality service. As agents for Uliving, the University will continue to market The Quays through its website, to allocate students to rooms and to collect rents.

As part of the transfer, Uliving will be making changes to some of the buildings. The Quays reception office will be relocated to the ground floor, Flat 1, of Matthews House 1 from 26 June.  The current reception/office area and the area where the former café was situated (Hawkins Houses 1 and 2) will subsequently be converted into thirteen new en-suite bedrooms.  This work will take place from 26 June until the end of August. In addition, kitchen refurbishments will be taking place in Sainty Quay.

The student common room space, currently provided in a temporary building, will close and students living at The Quays will be able to use the new social pavilion being developed at The Meadows from the end of September.

Uliving is a consortium made up of Bouygues Development and the not-for-profit housing provider Derwent Living.
