 USS consultation

Filed under: Latest news — Communications, CER @ 1:32 pm

The USS trustee announced in early May that in the absence of an agreed way forward on funding and benefits within the scheme, it would now be implementing the cost sharing process set out in the scheme rules in order to complete the latest valuation of the scheme.  This process requires a statutory consultation. This is in parallel with, but entirely separate to, the work of the Joint Expert Panel (JEP) and the trustee has said that it will continue to engage constructively with the JEP.

More detailed background information on the scheme can be found on the USS changes page of our website.  This consultation does not relate to any proposed changes to the benefits available from USS.  It relates specifically to plans by the trustee to increase contribution rates by employers and employees to fund the current level of benefits available from the scheme

  • The consultation began on 3 September and will finish on 2 November 2018

During this time, you will be able to have your say on the proposals.

Each active member (those currently paying in to the scheme) will receive a personalised consultation document with their member details enclosed and guidance on how to provide feedback to USS during the consultation. You should receive your personalised consultation documentation by the 31st August.

Affected members, who are currently not active, (those not currently paying in to the scheme) will receive guidance on how to access the consultation and leave their comments.

Please note that neither the University nor USS will be able to provide individual responses to comments left on the consultation website.

To access the consultation website from 3 September 2018 please use the following link:

For active members (currently paying into the scheme) you will need your USS membership number, National Insurance Number and Surname to log in.  The membership number is printed in your consultation document.

For eligible members (those who could join but are not currently paying into USS) you will also receive a consultation pack.

If you require any assistance please contact or drop into HR.
